It is not a gender specific desire to want to look our best. Sometimes that means we alter ourselves with the easiest being our hair. We dye it and fry it with chemicals, irons, and dryers. Sadly, we are often left with a head full of split or frizzy strands. Well, dry your tears, because there is help ahead and it is not going to cost you a lot of money. In this day and age of natural living, except for our tresses of course, there are easy and successful do it yourself damaged hair repair products. Let me tell you about a few.
Manufactures of conditioners and shampoos use emollients to soften your tresses. But did you know that you have the same emollients are in your cabinet. Olive oil, Coconut oil, and Mayonnaise are just three that can help.
How this works is, when your locks get wet, the water penetrates them, which will cause the shaft or cuticle to rise and allow breakage and damage. Both olive and coconut oil are full of fatty acids, beneficial to your mane. You would simply massage one or both onto your scalp and let it sit for an hour.
To apply olive oil, just warm up about half a cup then massage it on the scalp and let it sit for about thirty minutes. After that you can shampoo it out. You do the same with coconut oil, then massage it directly onto the scalp and through your hair. Leave it on for at least an hour or overnight. Shampoo and rinse out.
Mayonnaise is also great for conditioning and protecting your tresses. This is because it contains a protein that replenishes your locks to stop it from breaking. It also encourages new growth. One of the ingredients in Mayonnaise is a vegetable oil, which is going to create a coat much like silicone one your locks that will protect it from heat.
The protein found in eggs, will keep the natural oil found in your locks intact plus it will thicken and strengthen your tresses. An easy recipe to use is five tablespoons of mayonnaise mixed with two raw eggs. You do not want to end up with a liquid mix, so use your fingers to blend the two ingredients just enough to have a paste like mixture. Apply this to your scalp and hair and let it sit for forty-five minutes to an hour. Shampoo and rinse when time is up.
So, how did you get such a hot mess to begin with? Many grooming techniques are actually the cause for the damage. Rubbing shampoo the length of your locks, toweling dry by rubbing it, and brushing it while still wet are also harmful. Also the obvious but needs to be repeated are using the high setting when using a curling iron, hot comb, or blow dryer.
A few things some people do not think about doing to help their mane stay healthy and strong is to shampoo only the scalp when washing. Actually if your rub the shampoo down the entire length it can cause breakage just as brushing while wet can. Use a deep conditioner on a regular basis. In addition, when swimming, use a swim cap, or if just sunbathing, remember to apply some sort of sunscreen to your tresses also or at the least wear a hat.
