No matter if you are in agreement with retouching or not, the simple fact is, when it comes to boudoir photography, women desire it. When you are performing a service for pay, meeting shopper need is of greatest value. It's difficult enough to get down to your birthday suit in front of a complete stranger pointing a camera at you but after doing this for eight years, realizing that the blemishes, under eye circles, scars, cellulite, spider veins and parts that muffin top over clothing will be magically whisked away into the ether makes it easier.
With an average of 500 boudoir photography clients a year, the level of or how small they require to be retouched differs. It's important to listen closely through her appointment. In your mind be aware comments, body language and clothing picks and find an opportune occasion to lightly determine her retouching anticipations. By way of example, if a client is self-conscious about her hips and thighs and keeps making comments about the subject (wondering if they look fat, remarking that she has never liked that area of her shape or if she is constantly pulling clothing over that area each time it's unveiled), reassure her that you are able to eliminate anything at all protruding and that you can actually trim away a few pounds and slim them down. This will certainly lessen her stress and anxiety and now you have a launching point of retouching targets. When it occurs up, many ladies can voice excitement and may even make other requests and then there are several who will want "to look purely natural". The key idea is to always let your client know that it is possible to retouch just as much or as little as SHE wants. []
The best retouching request was from a client that felt so encouraged after her photo session that in spite of accepting her weight years ago, before she even left her photo session, she resolved to lose 30 lbs and return in one year to do another appointment. When she posted her order, she wrote me a little letter telling me this and requesting that I take those 30 lbs off her images for encouragement. "Carve me like a turkey!", she said. Typically, I don't like to shape a photograph that heavily but she was sure that is what she wished. So, I trimmed off 30 lbs from her photos. A year after I shot her for a second time. It was much like the 30 lbs I made fade away in Photo shop zapped it off her in real life too! She jumped up from the make-up chair the moment she spotted me and gave me the largest bear hug and thru delighted tears she thanked me for giving her the inspiration and inspiration to shed the weight she'd gained with her pregnancies and had been carrying for roughly few years.
Retouching and Boudoir Photography go hand in hand, its rare or even unusual to encounter a client who desires no retouching at all in their images. All people have a spot or a vein or some splotches of skin they do not want in their final product. Retouching is part of the expectation.
There's always negative people in the photography universe shouting against retouching, my suggestions is to turn away and focus on the women who are believing in you in relation to their vulnerability and offer these women a little something above her objectives. Provide them with more than impressive photos. It's possible you'll simply improve their day-to-day lives. :)
