The Many Advantages Of Dental Implants

By Tiara Padri

The tooth replacement roots that are placed in the jaw are known as dental implants. Normally the process provide a strong foundation for replacement teeth and are made to suit a patient's original teeth. They are designed in such a way that they fuse with the bone and look like regular teeth.

To a large extent your teeth affect how you speak and poorly-fitted dentures will cause you to slur your words, especially if the fitting was not expertly done. On the other hand, these processes that have a more permanent form will restore your speech and improve your confidence. Removable teeth cannot be used well while you are chewing, hence the need to use tooth implants that are permanent.

The success rate of implants varies according to their position in the jaw but the normal success rate is 97%. In many cases, anyone who is healthy enough for oral surgery or dental extraction can be considered for an implant procedure. After the implant, patients should commit to frequent dental check-ups and good oral hygiene.

Those who suffer from heart disease, diabetes or have undergone radiation therapy should consult their family doctor before considering implants. The first step in the implant process is to develop an individual treatment plan. The specific needs of the patient are addressed through a plan prepared by professionals in oral surgery and dentistry. A team of specially trained surgeons then provide coordinated care depending on the particular implant method.

During this process, an artificial tooth implant that is titanium-based is fitted into the missing tooth socket. The healing process involves the patient's jaw bone growing around the fitted metal, thereby anchoring it securely within the jaw. This recovery process takes anywhere from seven to twelve weeks. After the recovery is complete, the surgeon will attach a connector post, also called an abutment, that will further strengthen the implant.

Later on the doctor must take an impression of your bite and make a new tooth from it. This tooth will then be merged with the connector post. In some cases it may be necessary to add some supportive attachments to the dentures. The crown or tooth is designed and colored as naturally as it can be and will resemble your natural teeth. This implant feels, functions and looks like a natural tooth.

There are two main types of the procedure: endosteal and subperiosteal. Endosteal is one of the most common forms, where screws, blades and cylinders are used to insert the replacement tooth. It is used as an alternative for patients who have removable dentures or bridges. In the subperiosteal process, a metal framework post is used for patients who are not able to wear normal dentures and have minimum bone height.

Following successful dental implants, you are advised to observe proper dental hygiene. Flossing and brushing must be carried out regularly. It is also important to visit your dentist on occasion to address other issues like dental implant risks.
