What You Skin Beauty Routine Should Be Like

By Gretchen Mayfield

Growing old is an inevitable part of life and along with it comes also the aging of the skin. Various methods are widely available in an attempt to delay the skin's aging process, but the basic regime involves four steps - cleanse, tone, moisturize, and protect. It's best for you to consult a dermatologist first to find out which products to buy for your specific skin type. But prior to actually using them, don't forget to test them on an inconspicuous part of your body such as behind the ears. Never pursue using them once you observe allergic reactions.

With the proper kind of facial wash, clean your face once in the morning and another before going to bed at night to remove dirt, excess oil, or make up that may have accumulated throughout the day. Use upward and outward strokes for about a minute. Rinse well, pat face with a soft towel and then apply a toning agent with a cotton ball. This helps close the pores and preps the skin for the next step.

Rehydrate skin by applying moisturizer to give the skin the nutrition that it needs. Do this morning and at night to replenish lost moisture. Before going out of the house, be sure to use the one with sun protection properties to protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun's UV rays.

Do your skin a favor by treating it to gentle exfoliation at least once a month to remove deep-seated dirt in the pores for a smoother complexion. A facial mask is also recommended once or twice a month, based on your skin type, to clear and tighten the pores. Of course, nothing beats daily exercise, lots of water, a healthy and balanced diet, adequate sleep, and a happy, positive outlook in life.

There could be times when you'd have to deal with itchy, sometimes painful rashes brought on by allergies or bites by insects like mosquitoes, ants, or bed bugs. Don't be tempted to scratch them because doing so may just worsen the sting and bring about lesions, swelling, and possibly infection which may lead to unsightly scars and skin darkening. Relieve itchiness by washing the affected area with soap and water followed by the application of hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion. If irritation persists, immediately consult with a health care provider. Specifically for bed bug infestation, be sure to get the services of a professional pest control company to safely eradicate the source and treat all affected areas.
