Remember Regularly Utilise Sun Tan Lotion

By Haywood Hunter

The sun is always a welcome visitor to the summer skies. It always seems like the first real sunny day brings out the sun worshippers in their droves. Any spare piece of ground is taken up by those trying to get a tan, and many do claim to feel healthier for having obtained a tan. It is hoped that these individuals have applied a sun tan lotion.

A lot of people get sun tan lotions mistaken with sun screens. The good news is that you can purchase combination sun tan lotion and sun screen. The screening effect will help to protect you from the harmful ultra violet rays, whilst the tanning element works in conjunction with the bodies naturally occurring proteins to darken the skin's pigmentation.

For those who seek a combination sun tan lotion and sunscreen, remember only buy one that says SPF. This is the acronym for Sun Protection Factor. An ideal starting point seems to be an SPF of 20, if the number if greater than that it will lengthen the time that you can expose yourself to the sun.

One effect from the sun is that it will dry the skin. This is why your skin feels tight if you have sun burn. The sun tan lotion's cream aspect is designed to be readily absorbed by the skin, so keeping it hydrated. This will also assist in maintaining the skin's natural elasticity.

Something for the over 30s now, hopefully you will remember a campaign that started in Australia and then went global in the 1980s. It was called slip, slop, slap, and the thinking behind it was to raise awareness about how harmful to much sun could be. It is just as true today, so in the sun's full strength, slip on a shirt, slop on your sun tan lotion, and slap on a hat to protect your head.

People are a bit more careful when at the beach, but seem to forget that it is the same sun over their backyard. Then there are those who regularly work outside. A shirtless construction worker is a common sight when the sun is shining. Yet he probably isn't attempting to tan, he should still use some form of sun tan lotion or else he will get sun burn. If it is too severe it could force time off of work.

Should you be one of the lucky ones able to sun bathe, by utilising a combination sun tan lotion you will be able to prolong your exposure. As a result these sun's rays will be working on your skin for longer. It works with something called melanin, which is the bodies natural sun block. The pigment within the skin steadily begins to darken, or tan.

Remember to reapply your sun tan lotion at regular intervals. There are sun tan lotions that are meant to be waterproof, and even if you are not going swimming the body itself will be sweating. So even the waterproof sun tan lotion will need reapplication.

So by all means go out and enjoy the sun this summer. Get yourself a nice healthy tan, but try not to overdo it. Always remember to use, and reapply, a good quality sun tan lotion.
