Protection With The Best Suntan Lotion Is Vital

By Haywood Hunter

Spending long hours at the beach, exposed to direct sunlight is a practice that was very common among the population decades ago. Unfortunately, this practice continues to exist among a good part of the population, even today, with proof that it's dangerous. The importance of protecting the skin with the right suntan lotion is second to none, and must become a habit for many reasons.

For one thing, there is the reality of the statistics that exist. All it takes is a glimpse to see how skin cancer is on the rise. Failure to accept it is just being ignorant, and taking a very big risk. While some may argue that they want their vitamin D, no one is taking it away from them. The fact is that vitamin D can be absorbed easily, quickly, and safely, in less than 20 minutes a day. In other words, there is no need to sit out for hours in direct sunlight.

The only difference is that there is much less danger in doing so. Moreover, people need to forget about using homemade solutions of oil and iodine, baby oil, and other types that can lead to burning. Leaving the skin unprotected, or adding to it can only be a recipe for disaster.

The important thing is to take action and protect oneself and the children. Avoid burning at all costs, and that means using a good lotion that has the proper amount of SPF protection in it. The way one should judge which is the proper SPF protection is by the amount of time they will be exposed to sunlight. For example, running some errands by driving, and SPF 15 protection would do the trick.

Gardening, on the other hand would leave someone exposed to direct sunlight for long periods of time. In such a case, a minimum of 30 but preferably 60 or even more SPF protection would be a smart way to go. It's also important to protect the skin with proper clothing, as all these positive actions will avoid burning the skin.

However, consumers need to follow the manufacturer's directions. Each product is made differently, and so should be used differently. Some may be waterproof and require reapplication only hours later, while others require a new application immediately after swimming. Following the directions will ensure safety, and reduce the risk of developing skin cancer.

Certainly, it can take some getting used to. Most people don't reach for sunblock every time they step outdoors, but it's time to read think the way that people live. Always reach for the sunblock, but especially during peak hours, or if the UV Index is high. This is a reading that provides great information as to how dangerous the sun really is at a given time.

The good news is that there is a wide range of products available for consumers to choose one that suits them. In the past, they left the skin feeling greasy, and the sense was always one associated with the beach. Today, they have been reworked so that they smell better than fit into everyday life.
