What To Expect After Breast Enlargement Toronto

By Shawn Hunter

Women consider plastic surgery as a normal part of life. They have various needs for self-improvement including breast enlargement Toronto. Sometimes it is a matter of appearance or cosmetics, and sometimes it is for the purposes of post-surgical reconstruction. Whatever the reason, the recovery process is vital to avoid complications and repercussions.

Procedures can be either of two types: subglandular or submuscular, the latter involving the cutting of muscles in the chest wall behind the breasts, thus requiring more recovery time. It, of course, varies with the age and health condition of the patient. Overall, there are some generalizations that can be made. It is best, however, to consult one's doctor in regard to healing expectation and to follow the post-op protocol advised.

You cannot therefore have an absolute guarantee of recovery, but you can get an estimate. Each person has a different capacity to heal and it usually entails at least a few weeks to regain normal activity. When a muscle is cut, it can take longer to return to physical tasks. You must avoid strenuous workouts for some time - up to six weeks.

Surgery is tough for most, cosmetic or not. With breast work, you will need pain medication and ice packs to enhance healing. Drugs can induce constipation and nausea but are well worth the side effects. Compresses placed in the breast area will ease discomfort and reduce swelling. It is a bit tricky in that you are wearing compression bandages.

Surgical drains are also common after surgery to help fluid flow out of the body. This is usually for just a day or two post-op. It may be a little annoying and uncomfortable, but it does you considerable good preventing or relieving the buildup of pressure.

Apart from scars and bruising, the breasts will change in size, shape, and texture. Again, it is nothing to worry about and is quite expected. You cannot judge the final results too early on and should wait for your surgeon to advise you whether you have achieved full recovery.

Do not be surprised to see surgical drains used during this post-surgical time. Since an incision has been made, fluids will likely build up. There must be a way for them to pass from the body. Thus pressure is relieved and healing can begin. There are many areas to attend to and it is advised to have some help for at least a day or two after the procedure. During healing, no doubt you will notice changes in the shape, size, and texture of the breasts. This is normal, but if something looks out of place, it should be reported to one's doctor. Infection is often a serious complication and is indicated by yellow pus and extreme redness.

Patients worry about scarring after enlargement but in the hands of an experienced plastic surgeon, they should be minimal. Plus, they fade away over time. Incisions are small and strategically placed. It does take months to see improvement in any case. Another side effect of surgery is numbness as the nerves may have been cut. Furthermore, you may not take baths or showers for a few days to avoid irritation of the surgical area. Finally, it is wise to be carefully not to roll over during sleep onto the breast area which will aggravate pain and discomfort.
