Botox Trends

By Ariel Mernal

Botox injections are nowadays popular as a 'quick fix' solution to younger looking skin. Its cosmetic applications have advanced significantly over the last few years, with more and more people now looking to undergo botox injections with the hope of getting rid of fine lines and wrinkles. What was once probably thought to be a procedure whose novelty might wear off one day is nowadays considered to be one that is here to stay.

You may have read about it in the news or even seen it on television - more and more celebrities are now using botox injections to maintain their young looks and skin. But the question on many people's mind is 'why is it so popular?' or 'what makes it such a sought after procedure?'

Well, the answer is simple really. Botox is a cheap and effective solution to ageing skin. The entire procedure only takes a few minutes, is cheap and does not produce any scarring that may be associated with plastic surgery. Because of the constant coverage by media about celebrity procedures, the public is more aware about botox nowadays.

What about Botox for Men?

Many people think that botox is only something that women are interested in, but this is not true. The facts show something else, entirely. Women are still more likely to get botox than men, but it is becoming more widely accepted for men to receive the treatments as well. Some newspaper reports have even gone to the extent of calling it 'bro-tox'! In some areas, men are accounting for about half of the botox injections that they administer.

Trends are changing

Botox is becoming more popular all the time. In one year, 2010 to 2011, it went up from 5.4 million, to 5.7 million botox patients, so it went up 5% in that year alone. Other statistics say that it's 10% that it has been going up, year by year. Most people see these numbers and are not surprised by them. There used to be those in society that looked down upon people who have botox treatments, and it was thought to only be done by the richest people, but this is no longer the case, and it is becoming widely accepted by people of all classes and economic situations. It has now become a well recognized and widely accepted surgical procedure.

There is more than this though. Botox's applications have advanced from just cosmetic use to management of a variety of clinical conditions that cause muscle spasticity. Some of these conditions include blepharospasm, spastic paraparesis and cerebral palsy in both children and adults. The benefits are looking good and the results are more than satisfactory. Botox injections can be used to treat excessive sweating, and some have found success in using scalp injections to help to treat migraine headaches.

We can all speculate with certainty that botox is only going to rise in acceptance in time. Advancements are constantly being made, and at this time the future prospects are looking quite grand.
