Purchasing Virgin Indian Hair Extensions

By Janine Hughes

For many, looking their personal best is always important. Often this means wearing the latest trend or showcasing a unique style. To complete the look, especially for women, looking their best includes an attention getting hairstyle. Widely popular in Los Angeles, CA virgin Indian hair extensions are both high-quality and long lasting.

Depending on the manufacturer, the wefts are tied either by machine or hand. Hand-tied wefts give the most realistic look. They are thinner as well as lay flatter. Unfortunately, because they are not as durable as machine-tied wefts, they cannot be cut. To compensate for this, a bundle of hand-tied wefts contains four or five pieces. Machine-tied bundles contain one continuous track.

Manufacturers provide two types of wefts, machine and hand tied. Machine wefts are the most durable. It is a continuous and thicker weft that is able to be cut. Hand-tied wefts are not as thick and lay flatter. Due to its sensitivity, wefts tied by hand cannot be cut. Simple fold over the end to achieve the desired width. Each hand-tied bundle contains four or five pieces. The amount of pieces depends on the extension length. Curly extensions are measured after using an all-natural straightening serum to lengthen the hairs. They can be colored; however, once colored, it are no longer considered virgin hair.

Although many types of weaves are marketed as chemical-free, their are several ways to determine actual unprocessed weaves. Hairs that have been processed are acid washed. This strips the cuticles of their split ends. After the sulfate is applied, the end result is a shiny smooth strand. Not only does processing leave an unnatural look, the strand have an odor. Unprocessed hair from India is the opposite. These strands are soft, odorless with a natural luster.

Hand-tied wefts provide the best quality. The wefts lay flat because the hairs are carefully distributed across the track. Unlike one continuous machine-tied weft, each hand-tied bundle contains between four and five pieces. Machine-tied bundles are stronger and have the ability to be cut without leaving excess strands. Hand-tied wefts cannot be cut. Once the desired width is met, simply fold over the ends. This is done at each layer. Also, during the weaving process, in order to maintain the durability, it is important to sew around the weft and not through it.

The number of bundles required depends on the hairstyle. On average, a full-head sew in requires up to two bundles. Generally stylist recommends clients to purchase at least three bundles of hair when using lengths longer than 18 inches. Since the bundles are sold by weight, bundles with longer lengths have shorter widths.

Generally, the cost of the bundles depends on the length of the weft. For example, an 20-inch track costs about $100. Shorter lengths cost less. Lasting up to 12 months, they are reusable. The life of an unprocessed extension lasts up to three times as long as the average $20 bundle at the beauty store. Their longevity also cuts back on the installation costs.

Due to the nature of the hairs, no two bundles are identical. However, this is considered normal. It's true, they are more expensive than the typical beauty store weaves, but their longevity is between 6 and 12 months. That's nearly three to four times longer than other chemically-treated weaves.
