Best Way to Quickly Tone Your Muscles

By Liz Ford

Need to trim and tone your body? Believe it or not there are some very simple diet modifications and easy to do exercises which will do the trick-even while you watch TV. How is that possible? Follow the simple strategies below and watch your body transform.

The goal of trimming your body is to lose a few pounds that you might not notice at first, but once muscle toning exercises are implemented you will see what a difference losing those few pounds can make. Simple choices when you eat can make quite a difference and help you reach your trim down or weight loss goal. It is always good to consult with your physician prior to starting a new exercise or diet so be sure to meet with your doctor, they are there to help you maintain your health and often times have access to loads of information and resources.

1. Stop drinking "empty calories": Regular sodas, juices, and sweetened teas are filled with sugar which is equivalent to high caloric intake, but don't offer any feelings of fullness. The best option is to drink water and herbal teas, but if you must have some sort of "sweet drink," then opt for drinks that are sweetened with non-caloric sweeteners. These sweeteners include brand names such as: Sweet and Low, Equal, Splenda and Stevia. Stevia is currently considered to be the "healthiest" option when it comes to non-caloric sweeteners because it is derived from plants and is considered "all natural."

2. Make healthier dessert choices. Choose a sweet treat that is sugar-free or lower-calorie. Pudding, jello and yogurt are great options to serve as an after dinner dessert. Consider using fruit as a main ingredient in your next dessert option, one idea is to make a fruit and frozen yogurt parfait: simply fill a cup with a layer of fruit, followed by frozen yogurt and so on. You could also make a fruit parfait using regular yogurt or pudding. Be creative, you'll find once you get started it will be fun to see what your next "creation" may be.

Body Toning or Contouring: In order to do this you ultimately need to increase your body's muscle strength and definition in key areas, such as, legs, bottom, stomach and arms. By increasing your muscle definition your body will appear "contoured."

Here are two easy to follow strategies to start off with to get you started on the right track to toning your major muscle groups. By doing these exercises you are sure to be toned in time for summer.

1. Add some common exercise moves to your daily activities. While you watch TV for instance, do floor exercises at the same time. Use a yoga/exercise mat and do some "old school" calisthenics like jumping jacks, stomach crunches, push-ups, leg raises, etc. Start by doing 10 of each, in the beginning go slow as quick movements can cause injury and aren't conducive to the exercises. Choose your top 3 exercise and stick with those for 7-10 days, then change to another set of 3 exercises for 7-10 days. By doing this you will ensure that all of your muscles are being worked effectively.

2. Jogging is the best way to tone your body. Jogging is a very beneficial exercise for many reasons, it not only tones all of your major muscle groups but at the same time also helps you to build stamina and overall strength. Most fitness experts advise that in order to establish a strong foundation to a jogging program that it is best to start out walking and slowly work up to a jog. Typically you will start out by walking for about 4 weeks, concentrating on increasing your pace, by the 5th week you begin adding short burst of jogging into your walk, do this until you are jogging for the entire workout. The recommended duration of walking/jogging is at least 30 minutes a minimum of 4 times a week.

Eventually you will work yourself up to a constant jog for the entire workout. It is important to add an additional ten minutes or so to your overall workout time in order to allow for a proper warm-up and cool-down. Fitness experts also place an emphasis on the benefits of investing in a good quality pair of running shoes. The support and protection will help to avoid injury in not only your feet but your ankles and legs too.

If you start out slow and make the commitment to yourself you won't be disappointed. Even implementing just a few of the suggestions above will yield desired results. It won't be long until you are feeling comfortable in your swimsuit and summer wardrobe.
