Goji Berry Benefits Are Derived From A Wide Variety Of Antioxidants And Nutrients Among A Few Others.

By Thornie Swathi

It is widely sought after for its well marketed health benefits, especially its anti-aging properties. Although the name 'Wolf berry' may not ring any bells, you probably know the fruit by its commercial name: the Goji Berry.

Before becoming popular in Europe and North America, the wolf berry saw traditional use in both East Asian cuisine and medicine. It is a fruit native to southeastern Europe and Asia. They are used to give soups flavor and are added to numerous meat and vegetable dishes. As a medicine, it was commonly used to treat Yin deficiency in ancient China. Goji berry benefits were also known about in Vietnam, Korea, and Japan.

The many Goji berry benefits to be had begin first with their intricate collection of molecules, including polysaccharides, which are sugar molecules believed to support the body's immune system. Polysaccharides are also known to be a great source of probiotic fibers, which are the fermentable portions of soluble fiber that are processed into SCFAs, or short-chain fatty acids, within the intestines. This then provides beneficial nutrients for the probiotics within the intestinal tract to aid the body with vital functions like digestion and the absorption of nutrients.

Offering numerous health benefits, Goji berries are touted as a tonic for helping keep the internal organs functioning properly as well as for keeping the body's energy in tune. Highly regarded as China's national treasure, the Goji berry is finally getting much needed attention in the West. Containing an impressive concentration of iron, they are also important to the circulatory system as well.

The Goji berry is also the richest source of carotenoids of all known foods or plants on the planet. This includes beta carotene, which carrots are most commonly known for having. Carotenoids give the berry its bright red pigment, act as an antioxidant, and are a source of Vitamin A.

For me personally, living with anxiety and depression, I found just the mental clarity and having more energy made them worth their weight in gold. I do admit, I was skeptical at first, but after a week or so I was sold!

In vitro studies have shown that extracts of the goji fruit have been able to destroy cancer cells. Other than the antioxidants found in the goji, another goji berry benefit is its rich source of Germanium, which is known to have anti-cancer properties.

Organic Germanium interacts with the body by triggering the immune system to produce natural killer (NK) cells that act to fight cancer cells. Germanium also creates an oxygen-rich condition in the body which cancer cells find hard to thrive in.

And because Goji berries are such small, fragile fruits, they must be slowly and carefully harvested by hand, and what's even more time consuming is that all of the berries must be processed into juice form within the first 24 to 48 hours following harvest in order to retain their many nutrients.
