Microdermabrasion Crystals And Their Use

By Gwen Lowe

There is a natural process that occurs for the skin to renew itself, but as we get older that process does not work as well. The dead skin cells keep building on the surface of the skin. This can cause your skin to appear dull, wrinkle to looks worse, and pores to get clogged. Microdermabrasion crystals are a way to fix these issues and help promote the growth of new skin cells.

The procedure is performed at a dermatology office or at a spa with a specialist, called an esthetician. Skin is vacuumed first to trigger lymph node draining and increased blood flow. The suction stimulates the skin to trigger the growth of new skin cells. Once the vacuuming is complete, the spraying is started.

In this process, a large amount of tiny crystals are sprayed onto the skin at a high speed. The crystal blasting removes the accumulated dead cells from the surface of the skin. As the skin is blasted, the crystals and dead skin cells are sucked up. When the whole treatment is complete, the skin feels smoother and appears more youthful.

Different types of crystals are available, depending on what the spa or dermatologist uses. Types made of baking soda or aluminum oxide are common. In some cases, a form of salt or a type that has a diamond tip may be available. Some places provide you with the choice while others will choose the one they feel is best suited for you.

Microdermabrasion is an ideal choice for people who have dull, tired looking skin. It is a non-invasive procedure. Many people often choose this type over dermabrasion procedures because there is less recovery time. Skin remains pink for about a day following the procedure, and then you can continue using makeup. Unlike dermabrasion, this procedure does not have the potential to cause discoloring or scarring on darker skin colors. There is also no need for anesthetics because you do not experience the same pain as you would with dermabrasion.

Side effects are minimal. The procedure only involves the epidermal layer of the skin, providing a more comprehensive exfoliation. Sensitivity to light is common, so it is always advised to avoid direct sunlight for a couple of days. Some people may also experience tightness and light bruising in some spots. Skin peeling is also common.

For the best results desired, it will likely be necessary to undergo multiple sessions. In most cases, it is recommended to have six sessions spaced two weeks between sessions. It may be recommended for more or less sessions to occur depending on the severity of the skin condition and how well you respond to the procedure.

Although there are several options for the type of crystal that can be used with the procedure, not every spa or dermatologist will offer them. When you are considering the procedure, it is important to find out which places do the procedure and the experience level of the person who does it. The individual should have the skill to deal with any type of skin and various conditions.
