Options Of Varicose Veins Treatment Nyc

By Jaclyn Hurley

There exist many forms of varicose veins treatment nyc residents may consider. The condition however first needs to be tested and diagnosed by the doctor before treatment begins. One way of doing the testing is through a physical exam in which there is examination of the legs to check whether there is any swelling. Patients will also be required to describe any ache experienced in their legs. A more efficient way is the use of ultrasound to check for any changes in functioning of vales.

Treatment does not involve staying in hospital for long, for many people that is. Owing to the use of procedures that are less invasive, the condition is able to be treated on an outpatient basis. Self-care is among the first options to be considered. This will require that individuals exercise, avoid putting on tight clothing, try to lose some weight, elevate the legs and avoid standing for extended periods of time. These aim to reduce any pain and prevent worsening of the condition.

Normally, before one can consider any treatments, they should first try using compression stockings. These are meant to be worn for the whole day and squeeze the legs in a steady way to help muscles and veins to move blood more efficiently. The compression level of stockings depends on the brand and type of stockings.

The stockings can be bought from most pharmacies and medical supply stores at varying prices. There are also prescription-strength stockings. During purchase of the stockings, one should ensure they fit very well. The right size is gotten by measuring the legs using tape measure and using the size chart to determine the best fit. The stockings are supposed to be strong, not necessarily tight.

There are instances when individuals do not respond to self-care or compression stockings, or they have more severe conditions. In such instances, there are other modes of treatment that are suggested. One such option is sclerotherapy in which a solution that scars and closes the vein is injected into small and medium sized veins. Whereas the vein may need to be injected more than once, the technique is very effective if done properly. It does not need to be done under anesthesia.

Closing off of the affected vein can be done using laser surgery. Lasers are strong beams of light which are directed to the vein, making it to slowly fade and finally disappear. The procedure does not involve the use of needles or incisions. Another option is to use catheter assisted procedures in which small tubes known as catheters are inserted into the veins that are enlarged. The tip of the tube gets heated and as it gets withdrawn, the heat destroys the vein and it collapses.

Vein stripping involves removal of a long vein using small incisions. For most people, it is done on an outpatient basis. Removal of the vein has no adverse effect on blood circulation in the leg since veins that are found deeper cater for large blood volumes. The other two procedures are endoscopic vein surgery and ambulatory phlebectomy.

Caution needs to be taken when it comes to advertisements claiming permanent or painless treatments. While these may be appealing, they may not live up to expectations or their claims. The doctor needs to be consulted before taking up any treatments.
