3 Simple Fitness Motivation Tactics for Women

By Theresa Avellino

Men and women have many of the same issues regarding fitness motivation. While many people set fitness goals for themselves, very often they find it hard to actually get started or remain consistent about exercising. Naturally there are some who seem to be highly self-motivated. At one point or another, however, everyone finds it a challenge to work out week after week. While motivation isn't always easy, there are ways to keep yourself moving ahead when the going gets tough. In this article, we'll be covering three fitness motivation tactics that are geared to women in particular.

There are a variety of reasons people have for wanting to pursue a fitness or exercise program. These factors can overlap, but that's not what's important here. Our own reasons are personal and important to us -you and me. The more you can focus on the why of your fitness program, the more naturally motivated you'll be. Try to determine why you feel compelled to do your workouts and get into better shape. Whatever you come up with, this can be something to focus on when you're exercising.

When you remember why you're doing something, it's easier to keep doing it. When you get into the habit of doing this, your motivation will come naturally. You would be surprised at what we have read about other women and how they keep themselves motivated to train hard. One such method is to take a look around your gym or fitness club and observe people you wouldn't want to resemble. There are probably people there, for example, who are slightly or maybe quite a bit overweight. As you observe them, you remind yourself that this could be you. You may then have an additional reason to finish your workout instead of going home and relaxing.

As soon as you catch yourself practicing a harmful habit, do everything you can to reverse it. Seriously, you have to take the bull by the horns, figure out what's wrong or what is going on, and then break it. Not dealing with such issues can lead to your having real problems with motivation.

If you lose your enthusiasm for doing an indoor cycling workout, then you'll be back where you were before you started. Make a commitment to yourself not to let this occur. With all of life's demands, fitness motivation can be an ongoing challenge for women to maintain. Be as single-minded as you can while exercising, and for that time, let your fitness goals be your main concern. You can't really judge another person's way of motivating themselves, as it will vary from one person to the next. We are all individuals, and what works great for one woman may not work at all for another. This is true for anything, not only fitness. You shouldn't get discouraged then, as sooner or later you'll come up with a strategy that's ideal for you.
