Improve Your Looks Without Surgery: 5 Cosmetic Procedures

By Kris T. Larsson

Does anyone really want to go under the knife?

Now there are a number of less-invasive skin rejuvenation procedures that can help give you a new look with minimal downtime and discomfort. Each of them is appropriate under different circumstances, depending on your particular problem or issue. If you take care of problem spots before they get really bad, you can have young, healthy looking skin much longer than you think.

Chemical Peels

This removes the top layers of damaged skin, and leaves a smooth, soft appearance. A chemical peel exfoliates the first layer of skin, allowing younger, fresher skin to take its place. Skin tone evens out, wrinkles become fewer, and adult acne can disappear too.

Botox

Botox is a deceivingly simple procedure; sometimes patients forget that it really requires an experienced injector to do it well. In the forehead, Botox will relax the muscles. An injector who is experienced will be able to give a good lift to the eyebrows, create a full upper lip, soften any downturned corners of the mouth, remove fine lines around the eyes, et cetera.Injections scheduled every 3-4 months can make wrinkles disappear and even stop fine lines from appearing.

Cosmetic Fillers- Juvederm and others

Cosmetic Fillers are often confused with Botox because both are injectables, but they couldn't be more different. Botox helps wrinkles disappear by relaxing the muscles in the face. Cosmetic fillers add volume to the face and fill the wrinkles; this gives skin a more youthful, smoother look. Some fillers are appropriate as face volumizers to put volume back where it has decreased over the years. We prefer Juvederm to "plump up" lips.

Laser Skin Resurfacing- CO2

There are many different varieties of laser skin resurfacing, but all decrease the prominence of age spots or sun damage, and restore youthful firmness to loose skin. These procedures are excellent at clearing up wrinkles, too. Laser skin resurfacing is an attractive option for patients with large-scale skin damage, since it can be performed on areas of the body other than just the face.

Laser Skin Tightening

A variety of lasers are available for skin tightening. The skin is tightened by sending skin-damaging energy in a controlled healthy manner; encourage collagen and growth of new cells. Radio Frequency may be employed to tighten without down time or discomfort. Skin Tightening Lasers go deep in the skin with thermal energy to lift, tighten and stimulate the skin to form new collagen.

If you are thinking about plastic surgery, a non-surgical cosmetic treatment might turn back time enough, without going under the knife.
