Basic Information About Salon Supplies

By Celia Hall

A beauty salon, also known as a shop or parlor, is a business that provides cosmetic treatments to women and men. There are numerous variations of these facilities: some that offer hair car, some focused on nail car, some providing massage treatments and others that have an assortment of services available. No matter the situation, salon supplies are required in these settings in order for a business to operate.

The services provided determine what is needed for operation. In places where hair is done, equipment such a hair cutting and styling products and tools are required. A trolley or similar cart may be needed for storage of frequently used tools. Special sinks, hair dryers and other furniture is typically utilized as well.

Salons that function more like spas, offering services such as foot care, mud baths, tanning, oxygen therapy, massages, skin health and facials, may need different supplies. Tables for customers to lie on while being treated and special products for those treatments are some examples. At these businesses, extra care goes into making sure the surroundings are comfortable and pleasant for clients.

Nail salons will also need special furniture, such as foot baths and chairs for clients. The tools needed to carry out pedicures and manicures should be on hand, for example: polish removers and nail polish. Many of these salons also offer hair-removal services, such as threading and waxing. These tasks require their own set of tools.

In all of these places, it is expected that towels will be needed in great quantity. It is also important that workers have proper capes and apparel for themselves and their clients to wear. Sanitation products will be needed to ensure that tools used on multiple clients are properly cleaned. Most salons stock a variety of goods for sale to customers, including their own line of products.

A lot of companies offer these products in bulk. Likewise, many salons purchase the items in these quantities. Businesses that are small or do not offer many services may opt to buy in small quantities. This is an available option. It is important to note that not all stores will carry the supplies for these services. For this reason, it is best that professional salons buy from companies that stock all that is needed.

Distributors have a range of supplies in stock, including furniture, cutlery, disinfection, brushes, education tools, bottles, retail displays, salon accessories and more. Although the cost is expected to range, these items are generally less expensive when they are purchased in bulk. It is suggested that salon managers or owners take inventory of what is needed at the business so that they can ensure everything is ordered in a timely manner and they do not run out of necessary supplies.

Salon supplies are available at many stores and through various distributors. Owners of these facilities typically buy the necessary products in bulk quantities. Not all of these facilities require the same equipment and supplies. Regardless, distributors carry all of the items necessary for the services that are offered by such businesses. Prices will vary based on the item, quantity and manufacturer, but buying in bulk is preferred.
