Using a common sense approach to your skin care will make you realize that there is actually a lot you can do. The harmful UV rays of the sun can cause a lot of skin damage that can be just a small irritation or unsightly, deadly skin cancer. There are many countries in the western world where instances of skin cancer are increasing each year. As we mentioned before, one of the causes is too much exposure to UV rays. If you plan on spending more time in the sun than is wise, make sure you drink a lot of water and use a good quality sunscreen.

These types of products are so popular, that this has developed into a multi-billion dollar industry. Don't be fooled, therefore, by the marketing techniques that some of these companies may employ to get your hard-earned dollar. These companies have been adding vitamins, for example, and marketing that as being healthier for your skin. The main issue here is the way your skin gets nourishment from vitamins. Nutrients, such as certain vitamins, are assimilated from the inside out rather than the outside in. So just be aware of what you are getting and paying for next time. If you check around, you will find some makeup lines that include a powder that is supposedly formulated for oily skin. The bodies of anyone who doesn't eat properly - by including organic, wholesome fruit and veggies in their diet - can easily lack important vitamins and minerals in their bodies. However, it is possible to have some minor nutritional deficiencies and not realize it. Maybe you are a little sluggish or have other mild effects; it is hard to say. The bottom line is this: if your body is getting all the nutrition it requires, so will your skin. A daily mineral/vitamin supplement is a good way to make sure you are getting adequate nutrition, if you doubt that what you eat is doing the job. Our only thought on supplements is to make sure that the one you buy is specific to your gender. Men do not need iron supplements but women do, and there are others that are gender specific.

There are other considerations, such as how much exposure you get. Nevertheless, if you plan to spend a considerable amount of time outdoors, make sure you wear clothing that will protect your skin. You have to find a good balance for you, though, and it will also help to apply sunscreen under your shirt. A lot of folks will stick to the same products for several years after they have found the ones that work best for their skin. What happens eventually, though, is that, as time goes by, you may have to find new products to use. The reason is your skin characteristics will change over time.
