New Grad Book Featured in Integrative Nutrition Reviews

By Joe Martinez

The Integrative Nutrition Reviews series surveys books, films, magazines, and technology related to health, nutrition, and personal wellness. In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the most recent of Integrative Nutrition Reviews takes a look at a new cookbook and guide published by two Integrative Nutrition alumni: Kicking Cancer in the Kitchen.

Kendall Scott was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the age of 27, and Annette Ramke was diagnosed with breast and then ovarian cancer, the first diagnosis at age 36. Rather than slog through chemo weak and miserable, both women decided to take matters into their hands and not only survive, but thrive, during cancer treatment. They became their own health champions, read up on the the healing power of whole foods, and adjusted their eating and lifestyle habits. Alongside their doctors, this "food as medicine" approach dramatically improved how they fared before, during, and after cancer treatment.

This new perceptive spurred Kendall and Annette to enroll in the Health Coach Training Program at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. There the two survivors met, and Kicking Cancer in the Kitchen was born.

Integrative Nutrition reviews Kicking Cancer in the Kitchen with glowing praise and describes it as a "highly recommended" book for anyone who's struggling with cancer as well as anyone who simply wants to boost their overall health. In addition to over 100 recipes that emphasize whole, plant-based foods, the book also offers touching insights into the cancer experience - from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. Its honest advice covers everything from enlisting friends to cook dinner for you to finding a doctor you like and trust.

This latest book in the Integrative Nutrition Review series is an excellent and compassionate read for anyone who wants to get healthy - whether you have cancer or not.
