Selecting the best diet plan can be as difficult as sticking with one. Finding the right one out of the thousands of diets available is made more complicated by the fact they all contradict each other. Here are some advantages and disadvantages of some well known diets to help you find the right one for you.

Recently in the news, the GI or Glycemic Index Diet has become very popular. Glucose levels, and how carbohydrates are a contributing factor in regard to weight gain, is what this diet is all about.

Many people who go on a diet focus many on reducing fat. There are many low fat diet plans, and if you choose one you have to be careful about eating a healthy and balanced diet, which includes some fat. There are oils such as olive, flaxseed and fish that provide you with the healthy fats that are very important. Nuts and legumes offer healthy fats as well. The saturated fats that are not a healthy product and should be eaten as little as possible, their ingested when eating animal products or trans fats.

Some people will tout that the right diet will make you lose weight without exercise, don't listen to them. If you restrict your calorie intake to a number that's unhealthy you can lose weight without exercising, however you will put the weight you lost back on much more easily. Both a balance of exercise and a proper diet will make sure you lose weight efficiently as well as safely. It's a great idea to stick to an exercise program but you should also try to do more in day to day life, things like walking during break times and going up the stairs rather than using the lift.

Because there are so many diets to choose from, you may have to try several before finding the best one. Some diet plans tell you exactly what to eat, while others give you a little more flexibility. But you will do better with a diet that doesn't leave you feeling deprived.
