Enjoy Juicing Your Own Wheat Grass

Drinking the juice of fresh wheat grass is known to provide a boost to your immune system, thereby improving your health. By drinking the juice from wheat grass, it is possible to boost your immune system with a dearth of healthy nutrients as well as promote healthy cell growth and fight the growth of unhealthy toxins. To ensure you receive the wheat grass benefits you are seeking, you will need a juicing machine known as a wheat grass juicer because these are the juicers which extract the nutrients you require. You grow your own wheat grass at home for a super fresh juicing experience.

Grow it at Home Growing wheat grass is easy and it ensures you have access to fresh sprouts which is always important if you take advantage of the nutritional benefits of juicing wheat grass. You will need to soak the seeds in water first before you plant them, so take 500 grams of seed and soak it overnight or for 8 hours. You could of course soak them over the course of a day and then plant them at night. |If an overnight soak doesn't suit you, try soaking them in the morning and leave them to soak all day before planting them at night. For the best results, you will need a seed tray of optimum size 20 x 10 x 2 inches and some organic potting mix, preferably moist. After you have planted the seeds, cover the tray and place it someplace dark, and you will need to water them every day.

Growing the Sprouts and Cutting the Grass It will take 2 - 3 days for the seed to sprout and you should keep them covered and in the dark until they are 2" high, then move the try into a sunny spot, but not direct sun and let them grow to 7 - 8" inches. 4 - 5 days is what it usually takes for them to reach this height. Your wheat grass will flourish if kept in an environment of 65 - 68 F but try to avoid humidity if possible as it will result in mould on the sprouts. To harvest simply cut the wheat grass 1 cm above the level of the soil. After you have gone through this cycle a few time, you will have a good idea how long it will take so you can plan for a constant supply so as to take advantage of the wheat grass benefits.

Juice It You will need to juice the wheat grass as soon as you cut it and rinsed it. It may be that you won't want to use your entire harvest so you can keep it to use later in your refrigerator for a couple of days, but it must be in an airtight container. If you want to extract the maximum amount of nutrients from your wheat grass you will find the best juicing machine for juicing wheat grass is a masticating juicer. Food processors, centrifugal juicers and blenders should not be used to juice wheat grass because they oxidise the chlorophyll. If you hear someone referring to a wheat grass juicer, they are in fact referring to a masticating juicer. Half an hour is the most you can leave your juice before consuming it.

What Not to Do Always check there is no mold on your wheat grass as it is harmful if you consume it. Yellow sprouts should also be avoided because they are not fresh and will taste different to the fresh ones. The best tasting sprouts are the green ones which are fresh. Drink your juice right away. You can keep your juice for a maximum of half an hour in the refrigerator, but any longer than that is not advisable as the nutrients break down.
